Fettle Studio / Century Road, E17
A full home renovation near Blackhorse Road, including loft conversion and rear extension, to create a beautifully composed, warm and welcoming home, ready for a growing family.
Originally a compact two bedroom flat-backed terrace ‘two-up, to-down’, with a central perpendicular staircase, the rear kitchen and dining spaces were limited, awkward and cut off from the garden by the ugly lean-to and outbuildings.
The project used the stairs to bring daylight and flow through the home with the additional floor, and opened up to the garden at ground level via a new spacious kitchen-dining-lounging space.

The ground floor kitchen extension brings texture and light to the new family social space, combining natural materials, soft pastel tones and pops of vibrant colour from homewares and furnishings.
The simple form of the extension and use of yellow London Stock brick brings clarity and elegance to the rear elevation.

The loft spaces are light and inviting, choosing to enjoy sky views and daylight from above in the shower room, to prioritise one large grid window to the bedroom, giving simplicity and composure to the external elevation.
The kitchen design maximises both worktop space and storage, with a large central island, backdrop of full height cupboards, and wrap around units and shelves. The hallway connection enjoys views and light from front to back, opening to the staircase as it winds perpendicularly through the uplifted home.
